Medical Record Analysis
- Screen medical malpractice cases for merit.
- Define applicable standards of care and identify adherences to and deviations from standards.
- Identify causation issues, assess damages/injuries and identify contributing factors.
- Identify, review and interpret relevant medical records, hospital policies and procedures, and other essential documents and tangible items.
- Summarize, translate and interpret medical records.
- Identify issues of tampering with medical records.
- Identify and recommend potential defendants.
- Organize, and paginate medical records for easy reference.
- Prepare chronologies of the medical events involved in a case.
- Develop written reports for the attorney’s use as study tools.
Case Support
- Research and summarize medical and nursing literature and integrate results into case analysis.
- Analyze the validity of research studies relied on by all parties.
- Update and expand attorney’s medical library.
Medical Liaison
- Interview plaintiff and defense clients, key witnesses, and experts.
- Consult with health care providers.
- Act as liaison on attorney’s behalf with healthcare providers, testifying experts, witnesses and other consultants.
- Attend and report on independent medical examinations.
Expert Testimony and Witness Preparation
- Service an expert witness and testify to the appropriate nursing standards of care.
- Identify types of testifying experts required for the case.
- Locate and communicate with appropriate expert witnesses for deposition and trial.
- Analyze and compare potential expert reports and other work products.
- Help prepare witnesses and experts for deposition and trial.
Discovery and Court Preparation
- Prepare request for production and interrogatories.
- Prepared deposition and trial examination questions (cross or direct).
- Review and draft responses to various legal documents and correspondence for attorney’s signature.
- Assist with exhibit preparation and other demonstrative evidence.
- Attend depositions, trials, and review panels and arbitration and mediation hearings.
In addition, a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant (CLNC) may offer services unique to their individual nursing background and expertise. |
